Eligibility & Essential Information
 

FEES

For 16-24 year olds, all courses are funded meaning you don’t pay any tuition fees. Eligibility criteria does apply to enrol on any course. We can help with travel expenses and offer subsidised meals in our on-site restaurant.


LEARNING SUPPORT

You will have a personal tutor who is on hand to offer any advice and guidance you need throughout your time at Connect. If you are undertaking a pre-apprenticeship or apprenticeship you will also be assigned a workplace assessor who will review your progress.

SAFETY FIRST

Safety is priority number one and all our safety policies and procedures are in line with those expected in industry. We run a strict ‘STOP CARD’ system that allows anybody on-site to stop a potential unsafe act. DISCLOSURE & CONFIDENTIALITY Under the data protection any data supplied to us won’t be shared with any third parties. However, we may need to share some information with the business where you will be conducting your work placement or work experience or apprenticeship. Please discuss this with your personal tutor.


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for a Connect programme you must; We will give you the skills and knowledge to develop but you must have a desire and drive to actively learn and develop your own technical and functional skills. You must be motivated to work.


FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

All Connect students will complete functional skills training. Those who do not have at least a C in GSCE Maths & English will have the opportunity to sit the exam in order to achieve a grade C or above.


PRE-APPRENTICESHIPS

Enrolment on the courses are not automatic and various criteria need to be met. Call the Connect team to discuss in more detail.

To be eligible for a Connect Pre-Apprenticeship you must;

  1. Not have achieved more than a level 3 qualification or equivalent or above; However, learners can have a level 3 qualification as long as it’s not more than 30 credits which is the equivalent to; Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) Access to Higher Education Diplomas Tech Levels which are in the 16 to 19 Performance Tables. Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) qualifications at level 3 which are 30 credits or more. Two A Levels. Early Years Educator qualifications which are 30 credits or more or 300 guided learning hours or more.


Further criteria includes;

  1. Be unemployed at the start of the Pre-Apprenticeship.
  2.  
  3. Have little or no work experience and be focused on work or an apprenticeship or the prospect of this.
  4.  
  5. We will assess you to check that you have the potential to be ready for employment or an apprenticeship within six months of starting their Pre-Apprenticeship.

  7. As well those who are unemployed, we will allow those who are employed to take part in a Pre-Apprenticeship if they work no more than 16 hours a week and earn less than: 16 times the National Minimum Wage each week, or £330 a month.
  8.  
  9. Pre-Apprenticeships for 16- to 18-year-olds, in the funding year you start, must be: aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August, or aged 16 or over, but under 25, and have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC plan) Residency criteria also apply.
  10.  
  11. ​Pre-Apprenticeships for 19- to 24-year-olds, must be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the funding year in question, and under 25 at the start of the ​Pre-Apprenticeships and must not have an EHC plan.


Residency criteria also apply.

QUALIFICATIONS

An intermediate apprenticeship is a level 2 qualification which is equivalent to a GCSE or NVQ qualification. An advanced apprenticeship is a level 3 qualification which is equivalent to two A levels.
