LEARNING THE TRADE

Engineering is a discipline which covers a wide range of occupational areas. AIS Apprenticeships are available in Engineering Technical Support and Engineering Maintenance and Installation.Engineers need to be able to interpret engineering drawings, make components and repair replace electrical components on a wide range of machinery and a wide range of industries.

 

QUALIFICATIONS YOU'LL GET

The intermediate Apprenticeship framework covers Engineering Technical Support and Engineering Maintenance and Installation and comprises the following qualifications:

 

EAL Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (QCF)

This qualification can be obtained by following either one of two pathways, Engineering Practices or Technical Support. Learners following the Engineering Practices pathway must complete the three Mandatory units, plus three more of the Optional units.

 

Mandatory units:

  • Working Safely in an Engineering Environment
  • Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
  • Using and Communicating Technical Information.

  • Making Components using hand skills
  • Producing Sheet Metal Components and Assemblies
  • Producing Platework Components and Assemblies
  • Cutting and Shaping Materials using Thermal Cutting Equipment
  • Preparing and Using Manual Metal Arc Welding Equipment
  • Preparing and Using Manual TIG or Plasma-arc Welding Equipment
  • Preparing and Using Semi-automatic MIG, MAG and Flux cored arc
  • Welding equipment
  • Preparing and Using Manual Oxy/fuel Gas Welding Equipment
  • Wiring and Testing Electrical Equipment
  • Assembly and testing Electrical Circuits
  • Maintaining Electrical Equipment/Systems.

EAL level 2 Certificate in Engineering Technologies

The EAL Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Technologies will be awarded when the learner has successfully completed:

  • Three core mandatory units, comprising an on-screen multiple-choice examination and practical/ theory assessments Engineering environment awareness Engineering techniques Engineering mathematics and science principles.
  • One of the optional units, comprising Centre marked practical/theory assessment. Fitting and Assembly Techniques.

EAL level 2 Diploma in Engineering Technologies

The EAL Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Technologies will be awarded when the learner has successfully completed:

  • Three core mandatory units, comprising an on-screen multiple-choice examination and practical/ theory assessments Engineering environment awareness Engineering techniques Engineering mathematics and science principles
  • Three of the optional units, comprising Centre marked practical/theory assessments. Manual welding techniques Fitting and Assembly Techniques Electrical installation methods, wiring and circuit protection.

As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, Personal learning and thinking skills and Functional Skills/GCSEs in English and maths. As AIS have on site Zurich surveyors weld coding’s could be added to the framework as agreed with employers requests.
